I Can Teach Milwaukee provides a tailored teaching exposure experience for young men of color, including high school and college students (Fellows).  Fellows serve children in PreK-4 classrooms in partnership with Malaika Early Learning Center, Next Door Milwaukee, and St. Joseph Academy, where they work alongside experienced teachers to improve student social and academic outcomes.

Meet the 2024-25 Fellows

  • DeQuan is a senior at Marquette University, where he is majoring in sociology and minoring in criminology. Although originally from Chicago, he has spent a considerable part of his life in Milwaukee. As a Senior Fellow of I Can Teach, DeQuan is dedicated to fostering both the academic and social-emotional development of students in a K-5 classroom at Malaika Early Learning Center. He aims to be a positive role model for young males, demonstrating that there are many pathways to success.

  • King is a Native American of Menominee, Oneida, and Potawatomi heritage, born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has a passion for spending time outdoors in nature and reconnecting with his cultural roots. Currently, King is pursuing his associate’s degree at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) and plans to transfer to a four-year university upon completion. As a Senior Fellow, he enjoys working with K-5 students at St. Joseph Academy and making a meaningful impact on their lives.

  • Amir is a freshman at Milwaukee Area Technical College, specializing in HVAC and electrical studies. He takes pride in his role as a mentor and is dedicated to supporting his community by ensuring that other young people have access to the same opportunities he has received. As an I Can Teach Fellow, Amir works with K-5 students at St. Joseph Academy, where he finds fulfillment in delivering engaging content that prepares his students for both school and life.

  • Quannell is a proud native of Milwaukee who enjoys playing basketball, hanging out with friends, and embracing the great outdoors. Driven by his ambition to launch his own real estate business, he is also set to start college to earn a degree in business. His goal at Malaika is to build positive relationships with the students and prepare them for the next level as best as possible.

  • Raymone, an Army veteran hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, spends his leisure time immersed in intellectual and religious literature. Currently enrolled at Milwaukee's CDL Institute, he is pursuing his commercial truck driving license. In addition to this, Raymone aspires to build a career in journalism and dreams of studying abroad in the future. As an I Can Teach Fellow, he works with K-5 students at Malaika Early Learning Center and takes immense pride in aiding their academic preparation, setting them up for success in their future endeavors.
